Szimbolika: A matyóban minden színnek volt jelentése. A fekete a viseletben a föld színe, melyből a termés, az élet sarjad. A piros az öröm, a sárga a nyár, a Nap színe, a kék a bánaté, az elmúlásé.Az első világháborút követően jelent meg a matyó hímzésben a zöld, mint a gyász színe. A háború halottaira való emlékezésül zöld folyókával hímezték körül a kötényeket. A matyó hímzés összképe úgy hatott, mint a zöld mezőben tarkálló virágok.

A legrégebbi mezőkövesdi hímzések egyszínűek, amikor a többszínű fonalak megjelentek, már kötényeik a tarka színek egész bokrétájával ékeskedett.

Az ősi értékeket hangsúlyozandó, mi a matyó madárkát olyan formában jelenítjük meg a mintáinkon, ami egy archaikusabb, egészen a honfoglalás koráig visszanyúló forma, egy olyan sólyom, amihez hasonló például a karosi honfoglalás kori övvereteken is megjelenik. :)
